Regular readers of this blog know that in addition to our love of current TV shows, we have a minor obsession with the classic 1950's sitcom I Love Lucy (we even drove 7 hours to attend Lucy Fest in Lucy's hometown of Jamestown, NY for her 100th birthday celebration!). Therefore, we were quite saddened to learn that Doris Singleton, the actress who played the recurring character of Carolyn Appleby on 10 episodes of the show, died yesterday at the age of 92. Carolyn Appleby was probably TV's very first frenemy. She and Lucy were friends, but Lucy secretly despised her and always tried to find ways to make her jealous. Here's a classic clip which perfectly sums up Carolyn and Lucy's relationship:
