Stephen Colbert's Dance Video for Daft Punk's "Get Lucky"

Last week, we wrote about Stephen Colbert's random appearance on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon where Stephen and Jimmy randomly danced to Daft Punk's "Get Lucky". At the time we had no idea what was going on, but now we have the answer.  As part of Colbert's annual "StepPhest Colbchella" music festival, Daft Punk was scheduled to appear on the Report last night to perform "Get Lucky". While they ultimately weren't able to appear due to a crazy contractual obligation, Colbert put together this amazing video of him dancing along to "Get Lucky" with various celebrity guests, including, you guessed it, Jimmy Fallon.  Watch the epic video below, which includes his dance-off with Jimmy Fallon, plus many other surprise guests.  It all makes sense now...

Jimmy Fallon and Stephen Colbert Reunite for Random Dance-Off!

Here at We Like TV we have been carefully monitoring the ever-changing relationship between two of our favorite comedians/late night hosts: Jimmy Fallon and Stephen Colbert.  The two have been through it all, from best friends to eternal enemies, their friendship has certainly had its ups and downs.  The pair haven't done much together since their fun "Ivory and Ivory" duet back in February, and with the guests on last night's Late Night billed as just Mark Wahlberg and Poppy Montgomery, we certainly weren't expecting the two to reunite. But just as Jimmy finished his monologue and sat at his desk, Daft Punk's smash hit "Get Lucky" started to play. Seconds later, Stephen Colbert emerged for some random dancing with Jimmy, before vanishing just as randomly as he appeared. Check it out below:

Checking in with Jimmy Fallon and Stephen Colbert's Friendship

Over the last year or so, we have been meticulously been keeping track of the very unique relationship between Jimmy Fallon and Stephen Colbert.  First they were Best Friends Forever for Six Months.  Then they were Eternal Enemies for Six Months.  And then, things got kind of awkward.  (To see a detailed account of their relationship, scroll through our previous posts here.)  Last week Stephen  came onto Jimmy's show to discuss the current status of their friendship, and they ended up singing another great musical duet.  Check it out:

Stephen Colbert on The Office as Broccoli Rob!

Ever since the character of Andy Bernard was first introduced on The Office, he made it clear that a cappella was a large part of his past.  Here's a clip from the first episode of season 3, Andy's first appearance, where he talks about his time at Cornell at his participation in their a capella group "Here Comes Treble":

As the seasons have progressed and we've gotten to know more about Andy, we've learned more about his time with "Here Comes Treble", and all of his fellow "Here Comes Treble" buddies.  In this season 5 episode, Andy tells his fiance Angela (remember when they used to be engaged?) that Here Comes Treble will be performing at their wedding, and that the whole gang will be staying over at their house.  Here he lists them all by their college nick names:

Wishlist for New SNL Hosts this Season

Saturday Night Live's 38th season premier (on Sept. 15) is now less than 3 weeks away, which mean it's only a matter of time before we find out if Jason Sudeikis is returning to the cast, what new members will be joining the show, and most importantly, who will be hosting the first few episodes!  While we certainly have our favorite SNL hosts who we'd love to see come back to host this season (Justin Timberlake, Jon Hamm, Zach Galifianakis, etc.), it's always exciting to see someone host the show for the first time and see if they can join the ranks of those all-time great SNL hosts.  So now, before any official hosts have been announced for the upcoming season, here is my list of the Top 10 celebrities I would like to see host Saturday Night Live for the first time this season (in no particular order):

Stephen Colbert Makes Maxim's Hot 100 List!

Congratulations to Stephen Colbert!  It was announced last week that he made Maxim's "Hot 100" list of the world's 100 sexiest women.  Yes, you heard that right.  Due to a large number of write-in votes, Stephen Colbert (a man) actually made the Hot 100 List at sexy #69, beating out actual women such as Nicki Manaj, Pippa Middleton, and Sofia Vergara!. (Somehow Miley Cyrus just barely beat him at #68).  Check out Colbert's response to the news from last night's Colbert Report below!

Stephen Colbert Book Signing

Stephen Colbert tweeted that he would be signing copies of his new children's book I Am a Pole (And So Can You) in New York yesterday, so of course we just had to go.  Now we've gone to many book signings of TV stars before (most recently, The Office's Mindy Kaling and SNL's Rachel Dratch), and usually it involves the star saying a few words about the book, perhaps even reading a passage and/or answering questions from the crowd, and then everyone lines up and waits their turn to have a few minutes to talk to the star, get the book signed, and get a photo.  Unfortunately, this was not the case with Colbert. For one, rather than have the signing at a big book store like Barnes & Nobles (like the others were), Colbert had his signing in a little independent children's book store, going along with the fact that this is a children's book (although it really isn't).  We were all prepared to ask Colbert about what happened with his relationship with Jimmy Fallon, and how the whole thing got started, but sadly we only had a few short seconds with Colbert, enough for him to say "Hello" and "Thanks", and that's about it.  Photography wasn't even allowed, so sadly we don't have a photo with him, although we did sneak in a shot of him signing someone else's book when no one was looking.  

The book itself though is great.  It's much longer than the version he read to Maurice Sendak on The Report, and there's lots of funny things written on the inside covers.  Unfortunately, the ending of the book was changed from "I am an American flag pole, so pledge allegiance, or else!" as it was originally pitched, to the more conventional "so pledge allegiance, to me".  Regardless, the book is still hilarious and a must-own for any Colbert fan (though not really for kids, as the "stripper pole" line is still intact).

And in honor of the great children's author Maurice Sendak, who passed away just a few days ago (on the day Colbert's book was released), here is the full 2-part Stephen Colbert interview with Sendak, where he originally pitched him the idea for I am a Pole.

Stephen Colbert and Jimmy Fallon - Back to Normal?

Well, as we reported last week, Stephen Colbert was on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon last night.  The two were best friends forever for six months, and then eternal enemies for six months, which expired back in March. Therefore, we didn't really know what their relationship was anymore.  And it turns out, neither did they.  They seemed just as confused about where they stood, and ultimately just did a pretty standard interview and game of bubble soccer.  So it seems they decided to end the ongoing bit, and just go back to normal.  While we're sad to see it over, I guess it ran its course over the year and they were running out of fun things to do.  Well, we'll always have our memories...

Colbert on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon next week!

While watching last night's great episode of Late Night of Jimmy Fallon [featuring SNL's Taran Killam and Parks and Rec's Retta (Donna)] we noticed a little preview of next week's guests.  Lots of great guests are lined up for next week, including Will Ferrell, Cameron Diaz, Howard Stern, and the Beach Boys, but one name stuck out at us - STEPHEN COLBERT!  We previously documented how the two became best friends and then eternal enemies, but the two stopped appearing on each other's shows, and we were beginning to fear that their special relationship may have been forgotten.  We have speculated about a few potential showdowns, but nothing came of it.  Well, there is no longer a need to speculate.  According to TV Guide, Stephen Colbert will be a guest on Late Night next Friday, May 11 (well, technically it's on Saturday, since the show airs after midnight).  While Stephen is likely there primarily to promote his new children's book "I Am a Pole (And So Can You)" (which comes out on Tuesday!), something will surely go down when the two are together.  Don't forget to watch Friday night!  And in case you do forget, we'll be sure to post whatever happens right here!  Check out the short clip below to see the preview of next week's guests on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon:

Jimmy Fallon and Stephen Colbert Speculation at UNC Tonight

A few months ago, we posted a very long post, documenting the tumultuous relationship between Jimmy Fallon and Stephen Colbert.  During this past February, they often promoted that something would happen on March 3, when their "Eternal Enemies for 6 Months" would have expired.  But March 3 came and went, and nothing happened.  We have been watching both Late Night with Jimmy Fallon and The Colbert Report religiously each night (or later in the week on DVR), and not even a single mention of their relationship.  

Tonight on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, the President of the United States, Barack Obama, will be appearing on the show.  Not only that, but the show will be broadcast from UNC the (University of North Carolina) instead of his usual New York City studio.  So why on this huge episode of Late Night, with the highest profile guest imaginable, do I suspect something might go down with this silly little Colbert "feud"? 

Well, earlier today, Stephen Colbert randomly tweeted the following:

Why would Stephen randomly tweet about the UNC campus?  Was he perhaps there to film something for Jimmy's show?  We don't know.  Jimmy and his crew have been tweeting about tonight's show with Obama all day, and no mention at all of Colbert.  Also, as far as we know, Colbert is shooting his own show in New York today, so it's very likely that his tweet was just Stephen being random, and not indicative of anything.  But then again, who knows...  

So I guess we'll have to tune into Late Night tonight at 12:37 to see if Colbert does in fact appear.  And even if he doesn't (which is quite likely), it should still be a pretty amazing show with the President of the United States.  And from what the crew has been tweeting, Obama is gonna Slow Jam the News, which should be amazing!

TV Star Spotlight: Stephen Colbert

Stephen Colbert is best known as the host of the late night political comedy talk show The Colbert Report.  But the host of the show is not Stephen Colbert, it is actually Stephen Colbert.  You see, Stephen Colbert is a character played by an actor and comedian named Stephen Colbert.  While the two have much in common (such as their names), they actually quite different.  For one, the real Stephen Colbert is an actor who has played many different characters on many different TV shows,  before landing the role of playing the host of The Colbert Report.  So let's take a look back at some of the lesser known Stephen Colbert TV roles before The Report.

In 1995, Colbert starred in his first major TV show, the short-lived Comedy Central sketch comedy show Exit 57.  The show co-starred comedians Amy Sedaris, Paul Dino, and Mitch Rouse.

In 1996 Colbert starred on another short-lived sketch comedy show The Dana Carvey Show.  The show ran on ABC for just one season before it was canceled, and starred Dana Carvey fresh off his run on Saturday Night Live.  Steve Carell also starred on the show, often being teamed up with Colbert in sketches.   In this sketch, Colbert and Carell star as waiters who are nauseated by food.

From 1999-2000, Colbert re-teamed with Amy Sedaris to star in Strangers with Candy, a parody of after school specials.  Amy Sedaris starred as a student, and Stephen played her teacher.

Comedy Central

Colbert also starred on the Adult Swim animated series Harvey Birdman: Attorney at Law.   The show starred Birdman, the character from the old Hannah Barbara carton Birdman and the Galaxy Trio, as a retired superhero and now modern day lawyer defending various other Hannah Barbara cartoon characters in court.  Colbert voiced two main characters - the first was Harvey's eye-patched boss Phil Ken Sebben, and the other was Reducto, a paranoid opposing lawyer who was obsessed with shrinking people with his shrink gun.

Colbert also provided his voice to "The Ambiguously Gay Duo", the popular Satuday Night Live cartoon which started out on The Dana Carvey Show.  Colbert played Ace opposite Steve Carell's Gary.

Stephen Colbert also of course starred on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart as one of the original correspondents (once again with Steve Carell).  Here is Stephen Colbert and Steve Carell's popular segment "Even Stevphen", where the two debate religion.

The Colbert Report returns from a short hiatus tonight at 11:30 on Comedy Central!

Jimmy Fallon and Stephen Colbert

Jimmy Fallon and Stephen Colbert are two of our favorite comedians, and their shows Late Night with Jimmy Fallon and The Colbert Report are two of the best late night shows on TV.  While both comedians are hilarious on their own, when they come together, true magic occurs.  So lets take a look back at the very long, complex, and ever-evolving relationship between Jimmy Fallon and Stephen Colbert.





It all started almost a year ago on March 2, 2011, Late Night with Jimmy Fallon's 2nd anniversary show, when ice cream makers Ben and Jerry stopped by to present Jimmy Fallon with a very special gift:



Stephen Colbert, who has his own flavor or Ben & Jerry's ice cream named "Stephen Colbert's Americone Dream", was not happy.  He wanted to be the only late night talk show host with an ice cream flavor.  Jimmy Fallon then crashed his show, to confront Stephen on this ice cream debacle.

And like that, they were BFFSM, Best Friends For Six Months.  And as best friends, Stephen Colbert took the liberty to pledge Jimmy's money to one of his charities, without his permission.


Jimmy decided to return the favor by promising that Stephen Colbert would come on his show and sign Rebecca Black's "Friday" if his fans could raise the $26,000.  Well, the Fal Pals came through, and Stephen Colbert was a man of Jimmy's word.



And after that epic performance, the two friends seemed to be on great terms. That was until Jimmy released  his Emmy consideration packet with a picture of Stephen Colbert on it.  Stephen decided to respond by mocking one of Jimmy's weekly segments, "Thank You Notes".

Jimmy retaliated by mocking his Colbert's recurring segment "The Word".



Sure, they shared a little good-natured "ribbing", but the two were still best friends.  That was, until they realized their 6 months had expired...

Colbert then appeared on Jimmy's show to take part in an epic farewell duet.  (Unfortunately, NBC has taken down the clip, so this low quality YouTube clip is the best we could find.)



And with that, they became eternal enemies.  For 6 months.  Jimmy had Ben and Jerry over on his show to talk about his ice cream, and how it was outselling Colbert's Americone Dream.



Colbert responded by saying a few nasty things about Jimmy's ice cream flavor, and he urged all his viewers to go out and buy some Americone Dream, to try to outsell Jimmy Fallon's Late Night Snack.

Then Jimmy decided to up the ante by creating a contest to see what you can do with Stephen Colbert's Americone Dream, besides eating it of course.



Colbert responded by trying to one-up Jimmy's ice cream by making Americone Dream the new official ice cream of the future.

Jimmy then shared some entries into his contest, and even managed to manipulate Colbert's attempt at ice cream supremacy as an entry into his contest..



Colbert later retaliated with a few more insults for Jimmy's ice cream, and announced that his ice cream would now be sold in collectible "Super Pac Packs", and that Ben & Jerry's scoop shops would be giving them away for free on Valentine's Day.

Then, a few days ago (as we previously posted on our Valentine's Day post), Stephen Colbert sent Jimmy Fallon a Valentine, to let him know that even though they are enemies, he he misses his former best friend (for 6 months).

The next night, Jimmy received the Valentine on his show, as well as a very special surprise gift.
