TV Shows Returning!

Tomorrow is the big day!  The Thursday night NBC comedies finally return to TV!  And while we're always excited for the return of of favorite TV shows after the long summer hiatus, it seems that this year each show is going through some big changes that are really getting us excited.  So to get you all excited for the big season premiers tomorrow night, (as well as a few in the upcoming weeks), here's a rundown of why we're excited for some of our favorite shows to return!

NOTE: While we will be talking about the upcoming seasons of shows, this post will NOT contain spoilers of the upcoming season.  I am firmly against spoilers of any kind, as I believe it ruins the fun and unexpected nature of watching a show.  (I don't even watch the commercials on TV for the episode coming up next.)  HOWEVER, this post WILL spoil last season.  Many of the shows had big cliff hangers at the end of last season, so I will be bringing you up to speed on where we left off and why we're excited for next season.  This post is intended to refresh your memory of where we left off, not to spoil it for those who haven't seen it yet.  So if  you don't watch any of these shows or are currently watching any of the shows below on DVD for the first time and haven't fully caught up, please do not read that section, as I don't want to spoil it for you.

Taran Killam and Cobie Smulders Get Married!

While last week we brought you the sad news that SNL alum Amy Poehler and Will Arnett had ended their  marriage, we have some much happier SNL marriage-related news today!  Current SNL cast member Taran Killam has married How I Met Your Mother star Cobie Smulders!  The couple got engaged in 2009 and have a 3 year old daughter together.  So congrats to Taran and Cobie! The new comedy couple.  Hopefully their marriage will last longer than that of Amy and Will.

Emmy Roundtable: Comedy Showrunners

Ever wonder what would happen if you took the showrunners of 6 of TV's biggest comedies, sat them around a table, and let them talk for an hour?  Well, you'd get something like this.  As we lead into the Emmy Award season (nominations will be announced July 19, with the awards ceremony taking place on September 23), The Hollywood Reporter sat down with the showrunners of The Office (Paul Lieberstein, who also plays Toby), Modern Family (Steve Levitan), How I Met Your Mother (Carter Bays), Up All Night (Emily Spivey), New Girl (Liz Meriwether), and The Big Bang Theory (Bill Prady) to discuss what it's like to put together these a successful TV comedies.  As big fans of most of these shows, it was really interesting to get to know the people in charge, and learn more about our favorite shows.  Check out the video below!  (Or if you don't have an hour to spare, you can read the transcript here.)

BREAKING NEWS: Weird Al to appear on 30 Rock!

"Weird Al" Yankovic, known for his best-selling comedy albums and pop song parodies, will be appearing on an upcoming episode of 30 Rock.  Weird Al broke the story himself on Twitter, when he tweeted the following message:

Guess which show I'M gonna be on...

Clearly, that is a picture of Weird Al with Tina Fey and Scott Adsit from 30 Rock.  As huge fans of both Weird Al and 30 Rock, we are very excited by this news!

30 Rock has previously referenced Weird Al in the season 3 finale "Kidney Now".  In the episode, Jack decides to have a benefit concert "like 'We Are the World' - or 'Weird Al' Yankovic's less successful parody benefit, 'We Are the Pizza'".  Perhaps "We Are the Pizza" will finally see the light of day?

Weird Al is no stranger to appearing on TV comedies.  He has made guest appearances on many TV shows, most recently on an episode of How I Met Your Mother, playing himself from 1985.

TV Clip of the Day: Avoiding the Super Bowl Scores

It's Super Bowl Sunday!  So in honor of the big game tonight, we bring you this clip from How I Met Your Mother.  In the episode, the gang's Super Bowl plans get ruined last minute when they have to attend a funeral, so they agree to postpone their Super Bowl Party plans until the next night.  However, in order to restore the fun of watching the game, they make a pact to try to go all day without finding out who won the Super Bowl.  Enjoy the clip below to see how it all went down, and be sure to watch the Superbowl tonight so you don't find yourself in a similar situation!
