Kevin Hart and Justin Timberlake to Host SNL (and LNJF)!

There was no new SNL episode last night, but we got two great hosts coming up:

3/2 Kevin Hart (with musical guest Macklemore & Ryan Lewis)

Comedian Kevin Hart will be hosting for the first time this Saturday, and we couldn't be more excited.  I've seen some of his standup on TV and he's definitely a very funny guy.  And while I haven't seen his breakout role in the film Think Like a Man, I have seen him in a few episodes of Modern Family, so I know he can act as well.  You never know quite know what to expect when someone hosts for the first time, but I got a feeling Kevin Hart will not disappoint.  Since most of his standup is too dirty for this site, here's a (very) short clip of Kevin Hart on Modern Family, followed by his SNL promo:

3/9 Justin Timberlake

The following weekend Justin Timberlake will return to SNL as he joins the prestigious "5-Timers Club" by hosting and performing as musical guest.    Justin Timberlake is one of the all-time great SNL hosts, probably the best host of the last decade.  When he first hosted almost 10 years ago back in 2003, he was primarily known as a music star.  His amazing hosting job on SNL really started his acting career, and today he's arguably more known for his acting than his singing (though he's now promoting his first album in 7 years).  When a bad SNL host is on the show, they'll often play a straight character opposite one of the cast members being funny. When Justin hosts, he's the funny one, and it really feels like he's part of the cast.  His hosting  also raises 2 big questions: First, will Andy Samberg return to the show to do a 4th installment of the "D*ck in a Box" Digital Shorts (5th if you include their short segment in the 100th Digital Short)?  Andy returned a few weeks ago to premier his new Digital Short "YOLO", so maybe he'll come back again?  Second, will Jimmy Fallon return to SNL to do the popular "Barry Gibb Talk Show" sketch?  They've done it every time that Justin has hosted so far, though when Jimmy hosted last year Justin couldn't make it due to scheduling.  It's also interesting to note that the real Robin Gibb, who Justin impersonates, passed away last year, so would it be in bad taste to do the sketch?  We'll find on March 9th!  Here's the first time they did "Barry Gibb Talk Show" back in 2003, followed by a new promo for the show:

Whether or not Jimmy Fallon makes an appearance on SNL, it looks like he'll be spending a lot of time with Justin Tiberlake!  The week following his SNL stint, from March 11-15, Justin will be the exclusive musical guest on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon every single night!  He'll reportedly also be an interview guest on Monday and Friday, and will most likely be doing all sorts of bits with Jimmy throughout the week.  The last three times Justin appeared on Jimmy's show, they've performed their now classic "History of Rap" medlies, so hopefully we'll get a new one that week!  Here's the last two  History of Raps combined in one epic video.  Hopefully we'll soon have a fourth!

Golden Globe Nominations Announced! Our Official Picks!

Today the nominations for the 70th Golden Globe Awards were announced!  As you might expect, we care most about the TV comedy categories, so here are the nominations for each of those categories, and our picks for who we think should win!

Best Television Series - Musical or Comedy

• The Big Bang Theory
• Episodes
• Girls
• Modern Family
• Smash

Sadly, many of our favorites like 30 Rock, The Office, Parks & Recreation, Community,  and Louie weren't nominated this year.  Out of the 5 that were, the only one we actually watch is Modern Family, so we'll have to vote for that one.  Modern Family is a truly hilarious show with an amazing ensemble made up of both adults and kids.  Modern Family won last year, so hopefully it wins again!  Here's a great clip from a recent episode with guest star Matthew Broderick, who gets mixed signals from Phil:

Best Actor in a Television Series - Musical or Comedy

• Alec Baldwin - 30 Rock
• Don Cheadle - House of Lies
• Louis C.K. - Louie

• Jim Parsons - The Big Bang Theory

As much as we love Alec Baldwin on 30 Rock, we're rooting for Louis C.K. Alec Baldwin has already won the award 3 times now (Matt LeBlanc and Jim Parsons have also each won) so it would really be nice to see Louis C.K. get some recognition.  While I'll readily admit that when it comes to acting, Louis doesn't have much of a range, he is really great at playing the fictionalized version of himself that he wrote for himself on Louie, as evidenced in this clip:

TV Shows Returning!

Tomorrow is the big day!  The Thursday night NBC comedies finally return to TV!  And while we're always excited for the return of of favorite TV shows after the long summer hiatus, it seems that this year each show is going through some big changes that are really getting us excited.  So to get you all excited for the big season premiers tomorrow night, (as well as a few in the upcoming weeks), here's a rundown of why we're excited for some of our favorite shows to return!

NOTE: While we will be talking about the upcoming seasons of shows, this post will NOT contain spoilers of the upcoming season.  I am firmly against spoilers of any kind, as I believe it ruins the fun and unexpected nature of watching a show.  (I don't even watch the commercials on TV for the episode coming up next.)  HOWEVER, this post WILL spoil last season.  Many of the shows had big cliff hangers at the end of last season, so I will be bringing you up to speed on where we left off and why we're excited for next season.  This post is intended to refresh your memory of where we left off, not to spoil it for those who haven't seen it yet.  So if  you don't watch any of these shows or are currently watching any of the shows below on DVD for the first time and haven't fully caught up, please do not read that section, as I don't want to spoil it for you.

TV Star Web Series Round Up

Emmy Roundtable: Comedy Showrunners

Ever wonder what would happen if you took the showrunners of 6 of TV's biggest comedies, sat them around a table, and let them talk for an hour?  Well, you'd get something like this.  As we lead into the Emmy Award season (nominations will be announced July 19, with the awards ceremony taking place on September 23), The Hollywood Reporter sat down with the showrunners of The Office (Paul Lieberstein, who also plays Toby), Modern Family (Steve Levitan), How I Met Your Mother (Carter Bays), Up All Night (Emily Spivey), New Girl (Liz Meriwether), and The Big Bang Theory (Bill Prady) to discuss what it's like to put together these a successful TV comedies.  As big fans of most of these shows, it was really interesting to get to know the people in charge, and learn more about our favorite shows.  Check out the video below!  (Or if you don't have an hour to spare, you can read the transcript here.)

Happy Valentine's Day!

Still haven't made Valentine's Day plans?  Here are ideas from some of our favorite TV couples:

If you are your loved one are both working (preferably at the same job) and have a baby to take care of, you might consider avoiding the crazy Valentine's dinner "thing" and having to hire a baby sitter, and just going out for a nice romantic lunch.  Just remember that you still have to work after lunch, so try not to drink too much. Right Pam?

If you don't happen to work with your significant other, you can always surprise your loved one by sending flowers and chocolates at work. Just make sure you spell the name right so it doesn't go to the wrong person!

If you're willing it put in more effort than just sending flowers and chocolate, you can consider creating a scavenger hunt around the town, hiding clues in all of the places that are special to you two as a couple.

Or if you've been married for a while and you're tired of being those same old people you've been all year, you might want to try to spruce things up by pretending to be other people, going to a hotel bar, and seeing where the evening goes... (The commercial that plays before the clip is very long, but the clip will play once it's done)

Maybe you used to be with someone you really cared about, but recently had a fight and are now mortal enemies (for six months).  Valentine's Day is the perfect time to send that special someone a note to let them know how much you miss them.
