Amy Poehler and Will Arnett Separate

We don't usually report on celebrity relationship news here, but this news was just so shocking that we had couldn't help it.  TV stars Amy Poehler (Saturday Night Live, Parks and Recreation) and Will Arnett (Arrested Development, 30 Rock, Up All Night) are separating after 9 years of marriage.  The separation was said to be "amicable".  They have 2 young children.

While it's pretty common to see celebrity couples breakup, I really thought Amy and Will would make it.  They're both such talented and funny people, and they seemed truly happy whenever they were seen together.  They also often acted together, appearing in each other's TV shows, which only added to the fun the couple seemed to be having together.

However, in retrospect, when they appeared together on screen they usually played a very dysfunctional couple.  I suppose at the time it was funny because we knew they were happily married in real life, but now, going back and watching those old clips is just pretty sad.

In this clip from Arrested Development, Amy Poehler plays GOB's (Will Arnett) wife who he married after a series of dares.  After trying to get out of the marriage, he finally concedes to stay married and have a real wedding (so he can have a bachelor party and sleep with his wife after the wedding).  Suffice it to say, I guess it's now very unlikely that Amy Poehler will be appearing in the upcoming 4th season of Arrested Development.

On Parks and Recreation, Will Arnett guest starred as a blind date that Leslie (Amy Poehler) was setup on.     And the date is pretty much the worst date in the history of dates.  Here is the clip of their awkward date, which includes some alternate takes from the episode:

While not a TV show, Amy and Will also starred together in the film Blades of Glory as the evil brother/sister couples skating team skating against the pairing of Will Ferrell and Jon Heder.  In this clip, they try to coach their "nice" sister (played by The Office's Jenna Fischer) as Jon Heder's character asks her out on a date.

The couple also had their own special feature on the Blades of Glory DVD called "Arnett & Poehler: A Family Affair" where they hilariously improvise together, discuss their married life, and answer questions like "George and Gracie, Stiller and Merea, are you two the next Comedy Couple?"

Two of the funniest people around, sadly no longer together.  The comedy world will never be the same.

and my last comment, i think just because they are divorced doesnt mean they will never work together anymore. They will definitely still see each other because of the kids and I think they really are still on amicable terms. I think they your right that Amy probably wont be appearing in the 4th season of Arrested Development but not because of her divorce with Will but because her character has run its course. In fact I feel certain that they will work on at least 1 more project together seeing as this has not seemed like a messy divorce.

  4. Wow, 9 projects? What else did they do together besides Arrested Development, Parks & Rec, and Blades of Glory?

And true, Amy's character on Arrested Development was pretty much phased out so she probably wouldn't appear anyway. Not sure I agree that they'll work together again though. Even if it was amicable, there must be some issues there, so I imagine it would be awkward. I guess we'll find out eventually.
